California Launches privacy.ca.gov, a Website Dedicated to Privacy Information

News:

SACRAMENTO – The California Privacy Protection Agency has just launched a new resource dedicated to informing Californians about their privacy rights. The website, https://privacy.ca.gov is designed to be a central resource to help Californians understand their rights, including protections under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and the actions they may take on a host of privacy concerns.

“Privacy is in the California Constitution, and California leads the U.S. in privacy protections. We’re proud to help develop this important resource to showcase the broad range of protections they have under the CCPA and other laws,” said Ashkan Soltani, Executive Director of the California Privacy Protection Agency.

“In this new era of rapid technological change, we think it’s more important than ever for Californians to be equipped with the information they need to protect their fundamental rights. We will continue to add additional resources to this website to make it as helpful to visitors as possible,” said Soltani.

The site features information on rights under the CCPA and how to submit a complaint if you believe a business has violated these rights. The website also has resources for businesses to better understand their obligations under the CCPA.

On the additional protections page, users will also find helpful guidance on a range of privacy concerns, including other government agencies that can help if they are the victim of a data breach, identity theft, and other privacy harms.

Privacy.ca.gov is launching in advance of Data Privacy Week, which kicks off on Monday, January 22. The week is recognized by the United States, Canada, and more than 45 European countries. In California, Senator Dodd (D-Napa) has championed this effort, raising awareness and promoting best practices around data privacy.

The California Privacy Protection Agency is committed to promoting the education and awareness of consumers’ rights and businesses’ responsibilities under the CCPA. Individuals can follow the Agency on X, LinkedIn, and now privacy.ca.gov to access helpful and up-to-date information on how to exercise their rights and protect their personal information.

In addition, the Agency’s existing website remains the best resource for important information about CPPA board meetings, announcements, and the rulemaking process.
