The PIPC and CPPA Come Together to Advance Privacy and Data Protection: Declaration of Cooperation Signed

The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC – the Republic of Korea) and the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA – California, the United States of America) signed a declaration of cooperation on January 10th 2025, emphasizing their shared commitment to safeguarding the privacy and personal information of their citizens and consumers, while recognizing the need for enhanced cross-border collaboration.

SACRAMENTO – Dr. Haksoo Ko, Chairperson of the PIPC, and Mr. Ashkan Soltani, Executive Director of the CPPA, have signed a declaration of cooperation allowing both authorities to collaborate on their efforts to safeguard personal information and advance privacy. The signed declaration of cooperation will allow both authorities to:

  • share best practices, knowledge and information on procedures and methods including in the course of their investigations
  • share their annual enforcement plans and annual activity
  • facilitate meetings with staff members and
  • share relevant experiences and develop appropriate mechanisms for mutual collaboration

This declaration represents a significant step forward in strengthening collaboration between the PIPC and the CPPA, both of which play a key role in the global landscape of privacy and data protection. While the need for cross-border cooperation is increasing in the digital era, this partnership reflects shared commitment to privacy and data protection.
